For this unit, we were asked to create a dummy newsletter for a Fortune 500 company that interests us. For that reason, I chose Apple as my company because I love their products. From the iPhone to MacBook to Watch, I’ve been a follower of their company for several years. After my struggles with the last newsletter assignment, I was little hesitant to begin this assignment because I’m not the best at InDesign (yet) and I don’t consider myself as a creative person. But throughout the process, I enjoyed getting more comfortable with using InDesign.
For my dummy layout, I didn’t want to create anything that was too bold that would stray from the minimalistic lifestyle that Apple portrays. I admire their sleek and simple branding techniques and wanted that to be seen through my dummy layout. I found a really cool image to use for the background and decided to pair it with a navy, white and black color scheme. In the future, I think I would like to play around with the different fonts to see if there is anything that makes my newsletter stand out a little bit. Overall, I think that my newsletter sticks to the branding of Apple’s designs and I’m pretty satisfied with how it looks.
I think that my reaction was this way because again, I don’t consider myself to be the most creative person so I knew I would have a bit of a struggle coming up with a new and inventive design for this assignment. I was able to work with InDesign with more ease this times so it made the process of designing more enjoyable. I think that for the final project I need to experiment a little more and see what I can come up with!
