This week we were asked to choose an organization to create a business card for. This organization could be any we were interested in or one we wanted to be a part of after graduation. I instantly thought of Craft by Kraft, a jewelry shop created by one of my close friends, Maxine Kraft. She recently opened a shop on Etsy about two years ago showcasing her handmade jewelry. Her line ranges from beaded necklaces, to earrings and even bracelets. Her jewelry is amazing and I’m not just saying that because she’s my friend. Not only are her designs fabulous, but they are affordable as well. You basically get the best of both worlds with Craft by Kraft. Since opening her shop, she’s sold dozens of necklaces and her line can now be found in Longhorn Fashion, a women’s boutique located in Austin, TX. Maxine is one of the most hardworking people I know. Studying at the University of Austin while being involved on campus and running her own business is impressive and proves my point. I want to do this for her since I know her potential and I want her business to be as successful as possible. If I can help her expand her business in any way, I’m up for the challenge.
I definitely felt some pressure. I wasn’t just doing this assignment for fun, but to potentially help a good friend. I did not want to disappoint Maxine or make a bad grade. When I started the layout of the business card I didn’t have any certain design in mind. I had several ideas in mind (shown in my earlier post) but I didn’t know if I would be able to execute them successfully in InDesign. I figured I would make a basic business card for my first draft. Once I filled my background pink, the visual design came to me. Within 40 minutes I was finished with my card and I was amazed by what I created. Check out my draft below.
Sorry for the blurriness! I’m still learning as I go, but if you picture it without any blur and a bigger size, it doesn’t look too bad right? Especially when it’s just a draft! I was so proud of my work. I even showed several friends who were impressed with the turn out. I honestly thought this assignment would take me hours to complete and I would end up screaming at the computer. I’m glad neither of the two happened. This assignment made me feel so good about myself that I’m actually looking forward to continuing this project and perfecting my designs. Hopefully the finished product will make me feel just as good as I’m feeling right now.
