Welcome!

My name is Calvin Washington and I am a Certified G and a bonafide stud and you can’t teach that. And this right here? This is my blog, or portfolio if you will and I will be utilizing this a lot this semester. The overall look and feel of my blog may change throughout this semester but we will cross that bridge when we get to it.

Now, let’s dive into those questions.

Who are you? – Outside of what I mentioned in my introduction, I am a public relations senior. I was born in Arlington, Texas but I have spent the majority of my life in Oklahoma.  This is the beginning of my second year here at OU and while anxious, I am also very excited. I thrive off of meeting and getting to know people. I am very gregarious and have been told that I am felicitous for the career that I have chosen to pursue. I’m really not that complicated of a person, I just want to be successful.

What do you believe? – This question is so broad, but I will answer it to the best of my abilities. I believe in the power of words. Think about it for a second. Words have the power to build people up, to cause them to do things that they did not think that they were capable of doing. In the same breath, words also have the power to break people down. That is part of the reason why I chose to major in PR. Major companies everywhere can benefit from having a strong PR department, and what’s at the core of every PR department? Words. Words can make or break a business, tv show, even a reputation nowadays. It’s really incredible when you consider that.

What do you do? – I am a Gaylord Student by day, and a bank teller by night. I work at First Fidelity Bank and I absolutely love my job. It works well with my schedule and allows for me to stay focused and keep a little bit of cash in my pocket as well. When I’m not studying or working, you can often find me playing Madden on Playstation. I am also a lifelong WWE fan. I have a subscription to the WWE Network that I cherish dearly and when I’m not playing Madden I am more than likely watching something on there.

What guides you? – I think this is the easiest question thus far: The Lord is my guidance. I don’t believe in God because my parents told me to. I believe in God because I have experienced his goodness first hand. When I began this journey, I really did not think that I had what it takes. Fast forward a year and I am sitting pretty not only with a GPA that I’m proud of but also as a part of this wonderful college. As one of my favorite rappers once said: “I speak to God in public, I speak to God in public.” I am not ashamed of my faith, and I know that with him, all things are possible. I am also really big on words. I love being told that I’m doing a great job on something. If something needs to be fixed, I like hearing about that, too. That’s what guides me.

Where does design fit in your life? – Design has a major spot in my life. All of the things that I enjoy using: My iPhone, my Macbook, my Playstation, all of those things benefit from being pleasing to the eye. I will admit that things like Photoshop and InDesign have intimidated me to no end. I would see some of my peers create magnificent works of art with it and would be in awe. I am looking forward to this class and sharpening my skills when it comes to utilizing those applications.
