In this module, we learned that Typography is a critical part of how we tell stories. To practice this skill, we were to play three of five typography games to really test ourselves and see what we learned.

The first game I played was “Shoot the serif” this was all about practicing identifying serif vs sans serif fonts. I’ll admit, I really surprised myself with this one. I was trying to find a strategy that I could stick to and when that failed, I started shooting around aimlessly. After awhile, I began to get better and better and this is a game that I will definitely come back to later on.

The next game I played was type war. This game HANDS DOWN irritated me the most. We were presented with a single letter and two possible fonts that it could belong to. We were then to choose the correct font. We were encouraged to cheat, and even then I still had problems reaching level 10. The idea behind it is great though and out of all the ones I played this was my favorite. I noticed that they had an app that we could take with us on the go. Then I noticed that it was a cool $1.99 and promptly decided that when I come back to this one it will be through my Macbook on Safari.

The last game I played was Kern type. We were implored to “achieve pleasant and readable text by distributing the space between letters.” I didn’t spend a majority of time with this game but the little bit of time that I did spend with it showed me that I have quite the eye when it comes to that kind of thing. I’m really excited to build upon that this semester and use it whenever I begin my career.
