I’m not even gonna lie right now, this week was the hardest yet. I was asked to familiarize myself with both Photoshop and InDesign. I started looking at these videos Sunday and promptly proceeded to log out. The speed with which Justin “walked” us through these videos was mind-blowing. After I gathered my thoughts, I went ahead and worked through the Photoshop videos. To my surprise, my results were not too far off those of Justin’s. Granted, they were still pretty terrible, but somehow I persevered. I will say that graphic design is in no shape or form my strong point. Not even close.

Next up were the InDesign videos. These were a little easier to understand and keep up with, having that template really helped my case dramatically. There were still bits and pieces that I did not understand but I am hoping that those will become more clear as we progress throughout the semester.

Finally, I was asked to do a typesetting assignment. My objective was to recreate a document to match one that had been professionally done. To say I struggled with this is the understatement of the century. I’m afraid to turn in what I have because it almost looks nothing like what I was supposed to replicate. It’s humbling to say the very least.

My response to what I was being asked to do was one of pure shock and horror. How is a beginner like myself supposed to replicate THAT? Seriously. How?

After seeing my finished work, I must admit, I was proud of myself. I did miss one thing, but I am also confident that I will be graded knowing that I am a novice and that this is my first venture doing something like this. It’s kinda funny because I did not think that I would be able to get it done. But I did. And as nervous as I am to see what’s next, I at least know that I am capable of whatever gets thrown my way.
