This week, we were asked to make a letterhead that corresponds with the business card we made last week.

My initial reaction to this assignment was:

The reason I had that reaction is because I still feel as if my design skills leave a lot to be desired. I’ll never forget being forced to take art in grade school. The teacher would hang up everybody’s else’s artwork and then kinda just slide mine to me with a smile saying “you tried.”

Nonetheless though, I jumped into this assignment and starting tinkering around.

I decided to go with an internal memo. I wrote as if I were ESPN President John Skipper addressing my team after yet another successful weekend of College Football on our network of sports.

I got to work like:

and this is what I eventually came up with:

letterhead-rough

Overall, I am contempt with what I did. I really need to learn how to double space items in Indesign though. I think my biggest problem with it is trying to figure out a decent font to put next to “ESPN” at the top. I want something to match it without taking the primary focus away from ESPN itself.

In all, I feel as if I have a solid base here. I’m looking forward to any and all feedback that I can get on this to improve it and turn it into a quality letterhead.
