I’m going to be honest; this week was rough. I was asked to dive headfirst into the world of Photoshop and InDesign. I have a little experience with photoshop so I was pretty excited when I saw that we were going to start learning how to use it! I had never really used InDesign so I was excited to start learning about it but also kind of nervous because I have heard that it is a stressful software to use.
Initially I was really excited for this assignment because I really enjoy aspects of editing images and graphic design. I watched the tutorials on Lynda and really just played around with the software so that I could begin to familiarize myself with it. Once I felt like I was getting the hang of things I started our Typesetting assignment for the week. Looking at what we had to do was actually pretty scary. How was a beginner like me supposed to do well on this assignment?
Once I started, it eventually all came together. It took me a long time; hours to be specific but I am really proud of myself and the work that I did. I think the reason for my initial reaction of fear was just that this assignment seemed very overwhelming. I had really underestimated the amount of time and patience I would need to give myself to finish the assignment and be happy with the work that I did. Honestly, I still have a lot to learn in terms of Photoshop and InDesign. I would bet that at the end of the semester if I was given this same assignment, I would be able to do it much quicker and the outcome would be much better. I am excited to see how my skills develop over the course of the semester and I am excited to see how that will change the way I approach assignments!
