Bootcamp Week One is in the books and I’m real happy about that. I had no idea that I would watch almost three hours worth of videos and tutorials this week (well I did, I just didn’t realize how much time that was I think). However, the refresher courses in photoshop and indesign were so desperately needed for me that I was thankful to do it and thankful that I could bookmark those tutorials for refreshers later in the course (side note: I feel as though I will be thanking myself so much come finals time for doing this). Doing the pizza brochure and watching Justin take us through the realms of publication creation was snooze worthy at times and tantalizing at others, 9/10 will do again in the near future.
The two assignments that were actually due for the class this week were surprisingly tame compared to what I had expected. The typesetting assignment for me was really fun because I have extreme OCD and a deep seeded love of perfect organization, so getting to match fonts and create a clone newsletter was enjoyable to a point that I’m almost ashamed about. I think my end product turned out identically, which was encouraging and exciting. Here’s what it looked like!
If that link doesn’t work, here’s a screen shot!
Huzzah!! Candy newsletter!!
Now the newspaper mark up was also enjoyable because it was a rousing week in the news in anticipation of the Ohio State game and just generally with politics and crazy anti-DBo vigilantes running around campus. So! I marked it almost identically to the example given on Canvas and I think it turned out well also. Here’s a picture of it!
By the end of this week, I’m starting to get my wits about me when it comes to more complex and exciting design elements within InDesign and Photoshop. I hope that I can create some pubs that will reflect not only a full understanding of the programs, but that I can keep and use for a portfolio so that I’ll have an internship/a job in the near future. We made it!!!!!
