I am so relieved I am finally finished with this project!
For this project we were asked to create two direct mailers to help the admissions office here at OU. We could target any specific audience such as incoming students, alumni, parents, recruitment, and so on. I chose to create a direct mailer for seniors in high school and the other for senior girls in high school considering going through the recruitment process. I thought this assignment would be fairly simple, but wow was I wrong. I felt like I was just given this assignment with zero knowledge of Photoshop. I knew bits and pieces thanks to the Lynda videos provided, but I basically had to Google everything I did on my direct mailers. It took so much time trying to figure out how to work Photoshop and even longer to create my direct mailers exactly how I envisioned them. Overall, this project brought all sorts of emotions out of me; frustration, anger, sadness, stress, and towards the end, relief, happiness and proudness.
Photoshop, in my opinion, was harder to work with than InDesign, but I think that’s only because I felt I had received plenty of guidance with that program. I am extremely happy with the final result of both of my direct mailers. My favorite between the two is the recruitment mailer I created because it’s fun, girly, and took the longest to create. My direct mailer toward high school seniors is also good and I’m really just glad I managed to complete a second one since I never turned in a first draft for this direct mailer. The countless nights of zero sleep was worth everything I managed to learn through this project.
