Well, I never thought I’d say this, but Photoshop isn’t actually that bad.
I know, I know, all I’ve done in the last few blog posts is complain about Photoshop, and don’t get me wrong, we still have our issues, but this week our relationship was not as rocky as it was the last two weeks.
I think its because I’m finally getting used to the whole layers thing. Once I figured out that in order to edit a part of the design, I had to go over to the right and select the correct layer, my life became a whole lot easier. I’m starting to think Photoshop might be my go-to for simple projects that require text on a picture (mostly because that Is all I really know how to do in Photoshop at this point). I still think Photoshop is most useful for editing pictures, but I can appreciate the process, and I’m happy to announce Photoshop and I have reached a happy medium.
I really like how both of my direct mailers turned out. I took Croom’s suggestions and I really think it helped polish them up a bit. They aren’t perfect by any means, but I’m proud to put my name on them, and I’m even more proud to say I created them, from scratch, using Photoshop.
The main difference I can see between Photoshop and InDesign is that in Photoshop, you work in layers, and you start from the base and work upwards. InDesign is more…holistic? That’s the only word I can think of at the moment. In Photoshop everything is sort of segmented and categorized into layers, and with InDesign, everything is connected almost. It’s easier to accidentally move something in InDesign, so that is one aspect of Photoshop I like….everything is more “fixed.”
I really do feel like i’m getting to a comfortable place with both of these programs. Basically, I feel like if I had an internship and they asked me create a basic publication, I could pull it off without having a mental breakdown. So, yeah, I’d say that’s progress.
