This week we seemed to be focusing on the type on newspapers. We were asked to both identify the key elements of a newspaper as well as recreate them using InDesign. However, we were also asked to watch videos on Photoshop which seemed unrelated to the rest of the section – although useful. I would say that I was initially thinking that this was a lot to do in one week with the videos being so long. I also knew firsthand how hard it can be to learn how to effectively use the adobe apps because last year in advertising I had to teach myself a lot of it. I was hopeful this time, though, because there was access to so many tutorials that really broke everything down.
As far as the actual doing, I thought that the assignment was a little tedious but definitely gave me lots of practice with sizing and textbox use in InDesign. After this assignment I am definitely comfortable with those aspects of InDesign. Also, it really made me aware of all that goes into the planning of a newspaper page layout. I think it is very understandable that one thing I took away from the assignments was the organizational aspect of it. I am a super organized person and I see things visually in groups and organizational sections. That is just the way that I think so this project with the news sections really stuck with me.
