This week we were asked to create another direct mailer draft for our second stakeholder. I chose to create a direct mailer for high school senior girls who had been accepted to OU and might be considering going through the recruitment process. I was dreading creating this second direct mailer because I did not do so good on my first one. I could not figure out how to work Photoshop the first time I tried to make my direct mailer and due to timing I was not able to turn in my assignment. Disappointed in myself, I was not looking forward to creating a second mailer. Not turning in the assignment was not an option either.

Luckily, this week was not as crazy as last week. I did not have 2 midterms, work, and 12 assignments due this week so I was able to take time to really figure out Photoshop. I re-watched the Lynda videos provided by Croom, I asked a friend of mine for help and after several long hours, I managed to create my second direct mailer. For some reason, I can not figure out how to embed my images so I’ve just attached them below:

Not bad for me being totally confused right?

Once I was able to insert the images and sharpen them so they wouldn’t be blurry, everything else sort of fell into place. I knew I wanted to use bright colors, but I also wanted it to feel sophisticated. I thought the pink and grey combined really accomplished what I wanted. Now that I am looking at what I created again, I’m starting not to like the pink flag decor so I will probably change that in the future. I wanted it to be a little girly, but the flags might be TOO girly, I’m not sure.

Either way I am happy I FINALLY figured out what I was doing and even though it took forever to finish this draft I’m happy I finally get the hang of Photoshop, though I do prefer InDesign. I wish I had a before picture of my first direct mailer, which I again didn’t turn in (shame on me), but I am working on creating one at the moment!
