For my organization, I decided to choose one that is very close to my heart. Some members of my family have Type 1 diabetes, so it has been a reoccurring theme in my life. I have participated in many Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation(JDRF) walks, fundraisers, and galas.

The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes. They wish to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat Type 1 diabetes. Their job is to fund research to end the disease. There are many ways one can get involved with this organization. The Walk for the Cure that my family participates in is put on in many cities across the United States. In Dallas, it is every September and has games and food for all the participants. There is also the gala in the spring, where a live auction is put on.

JDRF does not really have any main competitors, since their goal is to find a cure for a disease. There are other organizations who have the same goal in mind, like the American Diabetes Association. Except, what sets JDRF apart, is the fact juvenile diabetes usually only effects those who are infected with Type 1 at a young age.

JDRF’s core values are to find a cure so that the world can live without Type 1 diabetes. Their three main goals are: Cure, treat, prevent. They are extremely committed to helping and improving the lives of each person that lives with Type 1.
