What is youtube?
Youtube is a google company that launched in May of 2005. In the about section of their website it says that “YouTube allows billions of people to discover, watch and share originally-created videos. YouTube provides a forum for people to connect, inform, and inspire others across the globe and acts as a distribution platform for original content creators and advertisers large and small”. So essentially, Youtube lets people create videos and post them online. People have actual careers and make their money because of Youtube.
Youtube is very well known and has a huge demographic that it reaches daily. It is definitely the most dominant video search engine online, however, Youtube does have competitors. Vine is a big competitor for youtube but with vine creators are restricted to uploading content that is a certain time limit long. Vimeo is another big competitor for youtube and it is very similar in that it allows creators to upload content for free. There are definitely other competitors out there but for the time being, Youtube kind of stands alone in its category.
Youtube’s core lies in its creators. It is a place where people are free to express themselves in a creative and unique way. Anyone and everyone has the opportunity to get online and exchange ideas through youtube. Youtube cares about creating and discovering new things and I think those core values and their attitude about video and content really brings people together. People from all over the world visit Youtube on a daily basis, I myself watch Youtube videos pretty regularly. It is a great way to connect with other creators and it’s a great way to learn and discover new things.
