The first game I played was Shoot The Serif. I took a class in high school where knowing the difference between serif and san serif fonts was very important. I found this game fun because I was so good at it. I never had to stop and think of which letters to “shoot” because I knew just seconds after looking at them. The only part I found tricky was when there were so many letters because it became easy to easily miss them. It was easy to get distracted with so many options to choose from.
Type war was difficult at first but then I easily got the hang of it. I never ended up cheating to figure out which font it was but there where times when I was totally guessing. For the most part I felt confident in my answers and didn’t feel like I was always guessing. After multiple rounds I began to quickly recognize which font was being used. Times New Roman was the easiest for me to recognize during the game because that is a font I use daily. The fonts that were the hardest to recognize were ones I’d never used before.
The last game I played was Kern Type. This is the game I enjoyed playing the most. On a few rounds I got a score of 100/100 and that really motivated me to want to play longer. I like when the things I do are appealing to the eye and that’s what this game was all about. Spacing is very important, sometimes I thought I was close but would get a score in the 50’s.
Overall I enjoyed playing these games and learning more about typography.
