Throughout this semester, this blog has been a focal element of the course. It has acted as a medium for sharing our experience while simultaneously acting as source Croom uses to make sure we’re actually doing our work each week. Setting up and managing this blog has showed me how crucial it is for PR professionals to maintain a serious online presence. Blogs work as a constant, self-updating portfolio to showcase writing ability. Writing weekly blog posts has helped me to create a strong, online voice that can be expressed and understood through text rather than sound. In addition to writing, blogs can also house image-based work. As a designer, blogs can be a way to show the design community what you’re working on and discuss problems you encounter.
For me personally, there is no question the skills I have acquired while running a blog will go with me into the future; however, this PR Publication’s page will likely remain an unconnected subsidiary of my larger website. Elements I’ve created in this class will definitely make it into my larger portfolio of desktop publishing content, but the blog content will no longer be relevant to my personal life after this course is complete.
The attributes I have picked up over the course of this semester truly act to empower me throughout the short remainder of my public relations academic career.
