Design, for me, is something that has always peaked my interest. But, this last year, I developed a love for photography and videography that I never knew I had. I talked about Instagram in an earlier blog post but I am going to touch on it again right now. Instagram is my favorite social media platform because it allows people to post photos that showcase the best moments of their life. Instagram also allows people to experiment with basic photo editing. Most people will find a filter that they like or a simple editing style that they like and stick to it. Doing that creates a feed that visually flows and that is pleasing to the eye.
This week, I took some pictures that showcase different elements of design. The first photo that I took was of a neon sign that reads “YOUTH IS WASTED ON THE YOUNG”. I love this photo. I want that neon sign in my room. Anyways, the reason I chose this photo is because it is a great example of typography as well as minimalism. The font used on this piece is very simple, using all caps and a slightly informal style. Personally, I think the font used is perfect for the neon sign because it doesn’t distract from the message. The second reason that I chose this photo is for the color. It’s simple, just one color was used, pink. Normally I am not a huge fan of the color pink but I love it on this sign. I think it gives the sign a beautiful look and it is so pleasing to look at. I think the fact that the sign is lit up and the color is bright makes it a head turner. People are immediately interested. I was immediately interested.

The second photo that I chose is of my friend Lily. We went to the Wheeler District in OKC where they have the old ferris wheel from Santa Monica Pier in California. We were just playing around, taking photos, and I ended up getting some pretty cool shots of her and the wheel. I like this photo for dominance. Lily is the focal point in the photo and the ferris wheel is behind her. You could change the background and lily would still be the focus of the photo. Even though she is much smaller than the wheel, the photo is of her, not the ferris wheel in the background.
The third photo is another photo that I took when I visited the ferris wheel but this time, the ferris wheel is the focus of the photo! This photo represents balance because it is symmetrical. Both the left and right side of this photo match up. I didn’t take this photo with the intent to use it for this blog post but when I was scrolling through the pictures I took over the last week, this one caught my eye.
The last and final photo that I am going to talk about is a photo of some neon lights. The reason that I chose this photo is because it is a good example of unity. Looking at the photo, it is obvious that the lights are all different colors but they are all moving in the same direction. The lights flow as one unit. Unless you were to look up and see that there are hundreds of lights illuminating the room, you would think that it was one even stream of light. Unity is something, like almost all elements in design, is pleasing to they eye.
