This week we continued to work on direct mailers for the OU Recruitment Services. From last week’s stakeholders I was able to stem this weeks stakeholder. Last week I focused on the male student body more so and this week was all about the young women who were considering OU. I thought that this would emphasize the personalized concept of the direct mailer and be more effective in drawing in that specific target. As far as design went for this draft I keep the same concept in mind but tailored the content in order to better fit the Panhellenic community rather than the football theme from before. I liked the simple layout of both designs and thought that it made the content easily readable and to the point. I am very OCD and although these were two separate mailers I wanted them to both go back to the same “roots” to create a recognizable concept.
As far as InDesign versus Photoshop I still stand strongly against PhotoShop. What it comes down to for me is that these applications are supposed to help you make your designs come to life but PhotoShop seems to only deter my design process. The unfriendly aspects strongly outweigh the final product when you can do most of the same things using a different application completely. Within the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite I strongly recumbent Illustrator over PhotoShop unless you are truly just editing a photo, which in that case you could still use another application to do that – even the Mac photo editor is better in my opinion.
Overall, I enjoyed continuing to work on the direct mailers and hope to hear feedback on my initial designs! Below you can find my first draft of the second mailer:
