It’s amazing how much I had forgotten from the beginning of the semester and how far I’ve really come in this class. My first post said how intimidated I was and how I had no design experience at all. I have a lot more now, and I’m a lot less intimidated! I talked a lot about how difficult Indesign was and how difficult the typesetting assignment was, which I now feel like I could do with ease. I did a whole newsletter by the end, when in the beginning I could barely do the typesetting assignment. Even though I was never really happy with my work, it’s clear to me now how much I really learned. I went from knowing nothing, to knowing how to put together a basic newsletter and make a business card, among many other things. That’s something a lot of my friends and even parents don’t know how to do. One thing that I’m pretty proud of is my business card, which I didn’t realize until now. That along with my letterhead are what I think looked the best. Those are the only things that I really feel could be used in real life without being totally embarrassing. I originally thought that they were horrible, but now that I look back I actually like them. One thing that I definitely did not do well on were the letterheads. I struggled so much with them and just never could get them to come out right. That being said, I learned a lot and if I started from square one, I know I could do a better job. All of the skills I learned this semester have helped me grow as a PR practitioner for sure. I won’t be able to get a job in design just yet, but with more practice I think I definitely could. It’s clear to me now why this isn’t a job just anyone can do and why people get paid for it. It’s not easy, and I have realized that in this class. However, I think I know more now about design and what people look for in design which will help me later in life. With some more practice I will be able to use what I learned in this class in my real career and life.
