So here’s the thing: at this point, I think I am a fully-knowledged wizard when it comes to PR publications. I have taken this class until I am blue in the face and now, I feel fully confident that I can actually make publications in real life. To take a full road trip and really live through pubs right, I went back through my laptop’s archives and read through/looked at/studied every thing that I have ever done for pubs and wow have I improved. I started out designing for Starbucks (where I currently sit) and it was a mess. Super asymmetrical and not very clean, weird font choices, a hot mess by any standard. Then we travelled through my semi-finished direct mailers, my stump town canva campaign and the Fannie Mae newsletter that I slaved over for about 30 hours. Finally, the only thing I actually liked that I made last semester, my summation of learning, which was a super cool infographic that I actually show to people still today.
Then this year. We started with Keep Exploring, a campaign that I actually really loved doing and that I look at with fondness. The sticker business card will go down as one of my favorite ideas ever still, I have full faith that eventually it will be implemented. Then we moved on to the direct mailers, where I discovered the importance of fonts, and that you can buy or download them and then make stuff look even cooler. I happened to make like eight versions of those particular direct mailers, so that was fun and interesting. Then we did the Patagonia canva series, my favorite thing that I have ever done in pubs. I loved that it was branded and colorful and that it totally fit Patagonia’s aesthetic while it still looked like something I did. Really fun and rewarding to work on something and actually like it when it when I was finished. Finally my disney newsletter, which I would re-do in a heart beat. It wasn’t terrible, but it absolutely was not my best. I am so excited to see what this summation of learning is going to look like and how I’m going to wrap up my time with pubs. It’s been a long and winding road, and I will be sad to be done if I’m truly honest with myself because I have come to love and adore this class and do it in my spare time as something fun to do.
