This unit, we were asked to review the elements of writing basics. We were asked to refresh on elements of news before we begin our first project. It was helpful to refresh because I forgot some basic aspects, like the elements of news.
I forgot the acronym SPICE COPPS shows what is news worthy and not. The “Big Five” is a cousin of SPICE COPPS. The Big Five are the important news values that would make news in a certain area relevant to that area. The ABCs of journalism is also important. ABCs are important to first graders to spell words but also to journalism to show that accuracy, brevity and clarity are necessary for a news article. The inverted period is how we structure stories with the most important information first and then the next important following for the least to be at the end of the story. Ledes and bridges are important to hook the reader onto the story.
In conclusion, it was helpful to review basic elements of writing for a refresher. I will be sure to keep these aspects in mind in our upcoming assignments.
