Typography is a critical component of any amazing design. Your font choices can either make or break your design, which is a pretty nerve-wracking thought. So for this assignment I’ve put my typography skills to the test by playing three games: Shoot the Sherif, Type War and Type Connection.
Shoot the Sherif
So the breakdown of this game is pretty simple. The goal is to shoot the serif fonts but not the sans-serif when they are all mixed together. Sounds simple enough. At first it wasn’t but gradually it got a lot easier to distinguish between the two typefaces. The key is to look for a tail on the letters and once you found that you shoot the serif. I ended up really liking this game and I got to the senior level.
Type War
Type War found that even with cheating this game was hard. For instance, I found it difficult to distinguish between Helvetica Neue and Verdana typeface. I found a lot of subtle differences between the different typefaces. Also, coming from someone who pretty much only uses Times New Roman it was fun to experiment with other fonts.
This game was odd. The whole object of the game was the match complementary fonts with each other based on a series of characteristic descriptions given. Playing this game, I discovered some complementary typefaces. Some that I would never have thought to pair together. This game showed me
