What an exciting week learning about fonts!! I have a love for handwritten letters and hand lettering as an art form (I’m super bad at it but I still like to do it) so this was super fun to see the differences in all of the different aspects of font. The kerning exercise (kern type) was a challenge that I really liked, it was my favorite of all of the type games. I ended up getting 100% on a couple by the end of it and that made me feel good about my eye and knowing that I can look at something and see that its symmetrical and attractive. Given, I also got 44% on one so I’ve got a ways to go, but still an exciting achievement. I also really liked shoot the serif, because the sound it makes when you shoot it is hilarious. I got a perfect match the first time I tried on Type Connection, also a very funny game, and that was sheer luck I promise. However, type war is now so ingrained into my skill set that I might have to put it as a skill on my resume. The difference between Veranda and Helvetica, Baskerville and Garamond, Didot and Times New Roman is glaringly obvious in my brain. Every font has its own style, its own nuance, and by the end of the game I felt like I had truly mastered the identification of them all. I could not get the movie posters game to work, but I’m still trying and will hopefully be able to play by the end of the night. I’ll post an update if I get it working! Overall, a very educational and exciting exercise in the art of typography; I hope to use my new skill set soon!
^^^^^my crowning achievement for the week!!!
