Week 3

This week in class we jumped on the computers and dove into InDesign. On Tuesday we created a cover letter for an annual report. Each step is crucial to making the final piece. I never noticed how complex/simple pieces are.
For example:

This picture shows a simple design of squares layered on top of each other with a thick black outline and shadow. The squares have a gradient embossed texture over them. Filled inside the different colored squares are striped lines. The base picture alone bleeds the entire page. The text provided is a typeface of san serif.

When creating our annual report design, we started from the ground up. Tuesday we discovered our tools and shortcuts for InDesign, and I was like:

Thursday was similar to riding your bike for the first time without training wheels. Your mom promises she won’t let go and then you run into a fence full force!

Or at least that’s what it felt like for me. Slowly but surely I fumbled my way through the project. Thursday was more or less about applying what we recently learned onto a 3 column design, like a newspaper or something. My favorite part about working with InDesign is the option to fill space with fake text. Why? I have no idea; I think it’s the coolest tool.

If you’re a text freak like me and obsess over what type of font to use for your projects check out http://fontsquirrel.com it’s where i’ve recently found my text inspiration.

I over analyze everything to be exactly like the example, so when it doesn’t look even close I get really frustrated. However, I am really excited about all the things we’ve learned thus far in PR Pubs. Look out world I noticed we’re working on business cards next week, and I’ve already made mine, but theres always room for improvement.

Check out my current business card. I also have a full example of my professional portfolio on my About Me page.

What’s your favorite tool in InDesign?
Are you a projectionist for no reason, like me?
