This week we were asked to write a small assortment of media releases for the Tipton Children's Home. I honestly wasn't aware that media advisories existed, and had only written one media pitch before that was sub-par at best.
As I worked through these assignments, I realized how personal journalists and their connections are with each other. I figured it would be a business-as-usual type of encounter, but it takes media contacts a reasonable amount of time to research, relate to and reach out to the proper journalist to convey their message. Though it is difficult to decide when to use an advisory vs a pitch.
It's a difficult decision to make because you begin to add "third-party" ambassadors for your brand, so the choice can be reflected in your brand.
Being able to properly write press releases is essential to the success of any brand, for if no one hears about your brand, who is your audience. The more skilled you are at properly writing both the advisory and pitch, the more likely you are to have positive stories written about you and the better presence your brand has.
Thanks for listening to what I had to say, and I hope you have a great day!
