Well, Stella Mae had a FABULOUS time working with photoshop this week! After working tirelessly on the direct mailer project, I finally reached a design that I was proud of, more so than any other of my designs this semester. I created two separate designs for two separate audiences. The first audience was incoming sophomores who were not apart of the Greek community but still desired that close, family-like bond that Greeks had, as well as having the financial backing to leave in Dunham or Headington. My second target audience was juniors or seniors who desired to leave behind a legacy and traditions, even after they left OU (which they soon would be doing).
To appeal to my first audience, I used rhetoric that stressed how Dunham was a community-oriented living space. I also emphasized that it was more than just a dorm, since many incoming sophomores (who would just have lived in the dorms as freshman) were probably sick of the so-called typical “dorm life.” I included pictures of the rooms, living areas and dining halls for Dunham to show students how modern and open the living space design was, as well as the Dunham crest. It included a call to action, saying “Apply now!” with a link provided.
As for the second audience, I took a different route. I included many inspirational pictures of OU students on campus and at OU football games, as well as scenic photos of the campus and its beautiful assets. In all caps, I wrote “LEAVE A LEGACY” to emphasize how even though the students would be leaving soon, it was not too late to leave behind lasting legacies and traditions, and living in Headington was the perfect way to do just that. It also included a call to action encouraging these upperclassmen to apply to live in Headington.
This assignment was really fun for me, especially because I got to expand upon my graphic design skills as well as using my PR skills. I hope we get to do more projects like this in the future!
