Take a look at these ads byArtifact UprisingandPurina(probably in that order). What do they have in common?
Both of them tell a story about how a brand views their product being used, and as an empathetic person I become engrossed in good stories like these.
Most of the time when people think of video editing they focus on the aesthetics of the project. The better a video looks the more likely people are to watch it, right? Not always the case. In my opinion, the best videos are those that tell stories.
Further on that point, check outthis TED talkby Dave Isay, the founder ofStoryCorps. He talks about his purpose for the organization, and highlighting the importance of sharing our stories while we can. One of the recordings he shares is between a mom and her son with Asperger's Syndrome, and the video that goes along with it makes the story so much more real and enjoyable.
In my eyes, video editing is meant to enhance the story being told. Not just to make something flashy. Edits should add depth to what's being said to make a message more memorable and connective.
Thanks for hearing what I have to say, and I hope that you have agreat day.
