This week we were asked to pick a Fortune 500 company and create a dummy layout of a newsletter for the company. I had no problem choosing an organization I wanted to design for, Nike, but I didn’t expect having such a hard time designing a layout. I struggled with making it both interesting and clean. I think there will be a lot of work to do next week once stores are placed and pictures are put in. I want to maintain the image of the company which is sleek and sophisticated.
I jumped right into the assignment and began creating the layout. But I am struggling to make it interesting and different. I do not want it to be a typical design, but I also don’t want it to be hard to read.
Thus far, this is my layout of the front page. I think a picture in the right will brighten up the content, and the background color can be adjusted accordingly. So far, I think I am getting the hang of where things should go, but ultimately I will need to play with the concepts more in order to achieve the image in my head. It is always interesting seeing something in your mind and then attempting to recreate it; it often isn’t easy to do. I am feeling iffy about my current design, but am optimistic about the final product next week!
