This semester I learned a lot about designing and how those practices will help me become a better public relations practitioner. But more than that, I learned a lot about myself and who I am as a student and who I will be once I enter the professional world. I proved to myself that I could push through assignments and tasks I didn’t understand and still be successful.
Now, I am able to look at something and critique it. I understand that sometimes less is more, and that is can take many alterations to something to make it what you want. I also learned that practice makes perfect and trial and error is a crucial step in creation. In the beginning of this class I was timid and afraid to tackle these projects. I felt lost and overwhelmed using the different applications and never thought I could design something. After my first project I think I proved to myself that I could do it. It may take a lot of work and time, but if I kept pushing through I would be successful. Looking back, I am really proud of all of my work and saw improvements as each week passed. However, I feel like I could have done more with my newsletter and underestimated how difficult that assignment was. It was still a learning experience and I feel like I grew throughout the semester.
Ultimately, I lost a little fear in the unknown and feel more capable in my abilities and in design. I grew as a public relations practitioner because I can take on multiple assignments I couldn’t before. But I also grew because I learned it’s important to try new things and to not shy away from things that seem hard. This class showed me who I can be and taught me so much about both myself and design.
