This second design project challenged me to establish two different, but related audiences and create direct mailers for them in relation to the University of Oklahoma and what this great school has to offer. I was to completely dissect the psyche of each audience and decide what their needs were. With this information, I was to decide what it was that they needed to hear or to see that would get them interested in OU. All of the information allowed me to come up with a concept and a design.
I responded by really honing in on my own experiences with OU and the recruitment process. I saw the need for heightened communication outside of the typical recruiting region. Once I did this I was able to decide that the greatest appeal that OU offers to someone who is so far out of state is the adventure that OU, Norman and Oklahoma have to offer. I was able to make my message apparent while using a simple design. This paved the way for my second audience, which I decided would be the parents of these students. They needed more than just the appeal of adventure. They needed the facts and that is what I provided.
I was actually very pleased with what I created! I especially like the piece that is targeted at the out of state student. I found this assignment much easier to execute. This is possible due to the fact that I felt like I could relate to it.
I for sure feel myself becoming more confident with the design tools as well as the creative process. Practice makes perfect!
