For this section I was asked to select a Fortune 500 company and create a newsletter for them using articles that already existed. First, I started with a dummy layout, and then after collecting articles and pictures I created the final piece. After considering my target audience, I finally decided to create for an external audience. This influenced my design decision by allowing me to pick a more colorful and informal design scheme.
My newsletter, after much struggle and long hours, changed drastically from the dummy layout to the final. I utilized Pinterest a lot to spark some creativity. The one thing that changed the most about the layout was the decision to go against the traditional print layout. I found myself really inspired by web newsletter design. Though this piece is meant to be received in print, I worked with the design to make a hybrid of the two different concepts. When you look on a website or at a newsletter online, you often get short snippets of stories, and after reading you get to choose if you want to click. I liked the idea of having a front page that presented all of the story options. The reader could choose to read what they found interesting, or flip the page and read everything in order. This made a catchy and appealing front cover.
I was not super excited about how my final project was turning out, but I have warmed up to it. It was hard for me to establish the initial layout and then choose the color scheme and font that best fit with the brand. But, I am pleased with the final.
