It is the end of unit 2.2. in my PR Publications class and I’m feeling more euphoric than I would have ever guessed. This week we didn’t have a big work load in terms of learning new material, because it was all about critiquing others and continuing to work on our business card and letterhead.
I loved getting to see other people’s work and it gave me a push of inspiration to put even more effort into mine. I knew my business card design wasn’t going to be easy to pull off because it required tedious clicking-and-reallocating of a million little objects, at least it felt so to me. Half way through my second work session, somehow my text boxes disappeared and it made it impossible for me to edit any text. Some objects shifted or disappeared, too, and I was close to just scratching it all. But I decided to work on my backside for a bit and then came back to the frontside and managed to rearrange everything.
Because I had time and the motivation, I decided to do the letterhead in the same session. And I have to say, I knocked out the first draft in about 45 minutes. It’s crazy how much faster you become after just a little practice. I’m not sure if my letterhead design is maybe too simple but I actually really like it. After all, the company slogan is Run Simple.
Next week I am going to add in the body copy but overall I am super satisfied with this week.
I realized that giving up or scratching a project as soon as it proves to be difficult is not an option for me. Even if it takes me hours of redoing everything and a lot of trial and error, I should stick with my design idea, especially if I like it a lot. I’m already excited for the next assignment!
Go check out this week’s design: Letterhead first draft
(Edit: After uploading my PDF file, I realized that the borders for my header and footer are black. Don’t worry, guys, I’m gonna change that!)
