For this assignment, we were asked to write two different news releases based on Tipton Children’s Home. It took me awhile to get started on this because, even though I feel like I should be able to write a news release in my sleep, I really have difficulty with it. I read all of the lesson material and examples over and over and looked up examples so that I could really grasp the concept and write a good news release. However, after writing them, I still feel like I did a terrible job. I have the hardest time knowing which part of the news release is which a
nd how to write them appropriately (the lede, bridge, body, etc.). I think I understand them until I read examples of news releases and it all just seems to run together so it’s hard to know if I did it correctly or not. I also have difficulty deciding which information is most important so that my inverted pyramid style is correct. However, I did learn a lot more than I had before about the different parts and formatting. I just would like to get a better grasp on the concepts of writing the news release so that I can write them with no problem. This skill is always going to vital in my career in public relations and is something that I need to know how to do really well.
