IMG_1489In my first week in PR Publications I learned the basics in typography, composition and format of different types of creative publications. The typography games I played helped me gain a much better overview of how many fonts are out there and how they go together when I want to combine a couple of them.

We were also asked to do our first work in Adobe InDesign (the task was to copy the page setup of a given poster and duplicate the fonts etc. on a new page) and even though it was no original work and more learning-by-imitating, I felt super accomplished when I finished. I also realized that the Adobe Creative Suite might not be as intimidating as I had originally anticipated, but that’s also too early in the process to tell. Most importantly, however, it made me very excited for the weeks to come and what I might be able to do in the end of this course!

One of my favorite projects of this week was the Design Blitz assignment. It asked us to be observant to everyday elements of design around us and I realized how much colors and shapes there are in almost everything you look, own, buy or like.

Another highlight of this week: I was actually able to help out a colleague at work, who struggled to do something in InDesign, just with the basic skills I learned so far! Definitely a moment in which I already felt like a pro ;)
