I’m sure this is just the beginning to a challenging semester, but this week really was tough for me because of having no experience in design. Let’s just say lynda.com is going to become my best friend…
For this week’s lesson we were asked to watch a few videos on design and being creative, then do an interactive blog post about different elements of design. I am totally new to design so this was challenging for me at first. I did some outside research to really grasp some of these ideas enough to write a blog post about them, but I am still a little lost. However, I was happy that I could find examples of these and think I learned a lot from this assignment. For the next lesson, we were asked to watch videos on InDesign and Photoshop. After that, we were asked to mark up a newspaper with the different parts of a newsletter/newspaper. The toughest part of this was remembering to go buy a newspaper.. Finally, we were asked to create a replica of an already made newsletter. The basics of this were doable for me because I watched the video that literally walked me through it. However, I still had trouble making lines straight and making everything line up evenly. I was disappointed in how my newsletter turned out because I was literally just copying from the one already made. Like, how hard could it be? I think I was most disappointed about the lines being crooked and not being able to figure out how to make them straight. I played around with it FOREVER! But, hopefully throughout this semester I will continue to get better at using InDesign and can have an outstanding looking newsletter next time.
