For my second design project, I will come up with direct mailers for OU’s Admissions and Recruitment team. I have to first define a stakeholder to which I will address my direct mailers. After thinking about it for a little bit and probably also based on my personal background, I decided to go with targeting international students that want to come to OU for a typical US college experience or because of a specific program. My demographics are going to be international high school seniors, 17-20 of age, while having acceptable ACT/SAT scores and fulfilled the English language requirement, with an income of $90,000+, who have started their Common Application but have not yet committed to OU.

Those kind of students will probably be presented with the choice of picking their university, depending on their grades and income. We want them to pick OU over others that might be more prestigious and well-known on an international scale, such as Ivy League schools and smaller Ivies. They would want to know why OU can compete with these schools and what are the perks that maybe outweigh the fact that Oklahoma is not as attractive of a location as the east or west coast. We want to make those students realize that they have come to just the right place, that they are welcome here and that OU has just as much to offer as other universities – if not more. We need to communicate what programs receive national top-ratings and how generous the school is with scholarships and financial aid. One of the big message points should also focus on Oklahoma as the ‘true America’, for people that come for the American experience of football, food and country shenanigans.

This banner below is what OU uses on LinkedIn and I kind of want to go into a similar direction.
