Business Card Designs

Color

There are many ideas when it comes to the concepts of color and design. The theory is that a person feels a different emotion based on the color that they see. Light pink or ivory along with white that is used in the bottom left card is thought to portray quietness, calmness and elegance.

For the “NAMASTE NUTRITION” card, a complimentary  color scheme was used with the colors of the flowers. Green is on the opposite side of the color wheel from red and orange, therefore making them complimentary. Green is usually portrayed as an earthly color along with orange that is associated with autumn. Red in this case brings the dynamic of love and passion. All of these colors tie in with the concept of “namaste.”

Finally, the light blue, “HANNAH HALE health & wellness coach” card at first glance creates a peaceful and serene fell. Light blue is known to create a friendly feeling of freshness, calmness, and relaxation; along with signifying a spiritual presence. The way the blue is presented on the card portrays a sort of wave-like or ocean feel. This is a perfect example of a way to present light blue in a way that sets your audience up to feel calm and relaxed.

Typography

Typography is a very important aspect of portray your message in a design or ad. Different typography gives off different messages; for example using all caps can sometimes be portrayed as yelling. However, on the blue Hannah Hale card I don’t believe the all caps is portraying that. The use of the script underneath the name goes along with the light blue theme portraying a feeling of relaxation and calmness. Script is not what is always recommend for something like a business card, but in this scenario I think it fits the theme nicely.

The typography used on the other two cards are versions of san-serif. San-serif fonts are known for being clean and easy to read. People perceive these fonts are being young and hip. I think that the use of san-serif on these business cards portrays all of the above. They are easy to read, creative, and trendy.

Form

The form of a design is the quality of its visual appeal. You want your design to have good ‘form’ because you want it to draw in your audience. I think these three business cards have good form. They are not boring, but they are not too over the top either. They draw you in with their design.

 Function/Message

The function and message refer to if the design or ad is getting across the message it is trying to be delivered.  I think all of these business cards do.  For example, the “NAMASTE NUTRITION” card has flowers around the box of information.  “Namaste” is a greeting term in the Hindu culture, and is also used at the end of most Yoga practices. The flowers tie in with namaste, because for many people namaste is seen as a peaceful and relaxing term; while flowers can also be seen in this light.

The function of the cards is also practical because it gets across the information that you need to know about their business, while drawing you in to the peacefulness of the design. The back of the cards also contribute to the function of the cards.

 Balance

The balance is the distribution of the design. Some designs are evenly proportioned on both sides while others are not. For example the pink and white on the “ZORI FIT” card are not evenly proportioned. The pink takes up a greater amount of space, however  the gold scare framing “ZORI FIT” creates balance between the two colors.

This is the same idea with the “NAMASTE NUTRITION” card. The flowers on either side of the black box frame are not proportionate to each other, but the black frame creates balance.

Finally, the blue of the “HANNAH HALE” card is a good representation of balance and proportion. The blue is spread in a wave like design evenly on the card.

Minimalism

Minimalism is the idea of using the smallest amount of something possible. In this case of business cards minimalism would be using one simple design instead of something busy and complex. In my opinion I think that all of these cards are designed from a minimalist stand point. However, it could be argued that the flowers on the “NAMASTE NUTRITION” card are more on the ornate side.

The other two cards are a very good example of using minimalist design. For “HANNAH HALE” it is just a simple blue and white theme. Likewise,  “ZORI FIT” is pink and white with a square theme. To me personally, I love the minimalist design theme. I am a firm believer in ‘less is more.’
