All of these ads and stories were found in a political magazine called MAD.
The first is called “Imagine” and depicts Donald Trump with a type of poem about what his “ideal world” may look like, according to a third party. I thought that the illustration and use of color was great because it captured the eye and drew you in to want to read more. I also enjoyed the use and space and the form that the message was portrayed in. Rather than listing off the things that the author didn’t like about President Trump, he used the typography to show a scenario in which Trump was speaking on his ideal world which I found very interesting. The symbol of Trump at the bottom really added to the page.
The second is called “Mad’s Breakdown of Donald Trump’s Voters and Hillary Clinton’s Voters.” The first thing that stuck out to me in this spread was the balance and use of color. I loved the way that they differentiated Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton by the color of their political parties. Also, I enjoyed the way that the pages looked identical, just with different type and a different picture. But, the layout was the exact same which showed a great balance and use of space. The unity between the two pages showed that they clearly went together although the colors were separated.
Lastly, this example is titled “Billboards for Highly Specialized Attorneys.” I didn’t think that this ad did a great job of using space well. It was a lot to look at and your eye didn’t know where to focus. Also, a good element of design is minimalism and this page was far from that. It was extremely busy and I think that this caused the messages to be lost because you were too busy looking around.
