Hello!
I’m Shyann Hester, I typically just go by Shyann although some call me Shy. I am a senior public relations major from Mustang, Oklahoma. I work part-time as a server and have a couple of other jobs to pay my way through school. I also work at Lindsey + Asp in account management for the OU gymnastics teams. What keeps me motivated to finish college is to eventually have a family I will be able to support one day and to make myself and my family proud. Whenever it’s not easy to keep pushing, I rely on God and my family (my dad and grandma, aka “Gry”) to guide me through. I believe that although college isn’t for everyone, everyone has a purpose in this world and my college career has helped me find mine. I have changed my major a few times throughout my time in college, starting out with nutrition, then journalism and eventually ending up in PR. To be honest, when I switched from journalism I didn’t really know what public relations was. I knew that famous people had a PR person to speak for them or make them look better but th
at was about it. Once I started learning more about it, I completely fell in love with sports PR. I have been a cheerleader for the majority of my life, cheering at OU for a year, and my dad has always taught me to love all things sports; sports PR has the potential to allow me to continue to be surrounded by what I love even in my professional career. I love the idea of getting to plan big sporting events and be behind the scenes in doing amazing things related to sports. Writing is something that I have started to do a lot of, with school and on my own time. My cousin just went to the Air Force so I spend time writing letters to her daily. This surprisingly has helped me get better at story-telling and has helped me in school as well. I don’t have a lot of experience with design but it is one thing that I am really looking forward to getting to learn.
