This week we were tasked with finalizing all aspects of design for both our business cards and letterhead. To be completely honest after reviewing a few of my peers’ business cards I realized that I was making a large mistake. Instead of drafting a card related to the client I had chosen I was designing almost a sort of free style product. The second I realized this, I could put together a consistent design framework utilizing the Academy’s color scheme and font base I was incredibly relieved and began to create a final product that I would be proud of.
I worried while working with my new design format for the business cards that the color scheme was growing to be too much. I noticed that I might have been overusing the Academy’s gold. However after adding a few layers and aspects to the design I am happy with the final result.
In regards to the letter head, I made only one change. After I added a solid border around one side of my business card I realized that I could work to make both products consistent with each other by placing the same sort of border around the letterhead. I am really enjoying having the opportunity to produce products for the Academy because it is an organization that I am passionate about outside of this course. With the Oscars being this weekend I felt a newfound inspiration to complete the products and ensure that they were consistent with the design work of the Academy.
