In this unit, I was asked to create a segmenting matrix, direct, mailer and reflect on the reading about designing for emotion. I was excited to work on the direct mailer and do the reading but I was wary when approaching the segmenting matrix because of the amount of work and critical thinking it would require. My reaction to my segmenting matrix was that it came out a little lackluster because I was confused on what the information was supposed to be about, even with the example. I think I got caught up with trying to put the correct information that I didn’t enjoy doing it. On the other hand, I was extremely satisfied with the result of my direct mailer. Even though it wasn’t the exact image I wanted, I worked with the images provided to come out with a good result, in my opinion.
I think I contributed some good thoughts and opinions on the reading discussion because I think others may share the same opinions as me. I think my reaction was this way because I’m used to having clear directions so I was hesitant about the segmenting matrix. For the direct mailer, I’m getting more and more comfortable with Photoshop and confident in my personal design skills. And for the reading discussion, I’m used to contributing my opinions through my other classes so all three assignments made for a busy week! I am glad that we had the chance to use Photoshop more since I personally like it more than InDesign.
