This week we were asked to write a position paper in favor of Tipton Children’s Home. Now I can pick up on how to write about a subject objectively with more ease. Practicing through the position paper helped me also pick out what facts are relevant towards supporting your case. Through this assignment, I’m also able to pick on how to incorporate solutions and resolutions to problems that come from the subject you are supporting. Spinning the issue in a positive way through comparison and then being able to solve the problem is something I did not have many skills in previously. I would like to know how often the resolutions proposed by PR professionals are used because I feel like most of them are passionate about the subjects they are working with. The position paper was something that I did not know was part of PR but now it meets my expectations of the professional level we are held accountable at. The position paper shows that writers must be objective no matter the cause they are working for and that it is important to not portray the opposite subject in a negative light. I think this is largely attributed to the reputation of PR professionals, and breaking stereotypes. I see this particular skillset helping me in my future if I were to advocate for a cause or subject. I can see position papers being relevant when determining how to pitch a solution as well.
