For this unit, I was asked to use Canva to make potential social media design posts. The company I chose was Qdoba because I feel as though they are a fun and fresh brand that would be fun to design for. I was asked to make a total for 4 social media designs that would be used by the company.  I’ve used Canva before in Intro to PR, so I LOVED getting the chance to work with it again. Personally, I like the usability and ease of navigating the website and I really like the templates that are provided. Coming into this assignment I was excited because of my background using Canva.

In response to what I actually did, I was extremely satisfied with my end result. I was happy with my fonts and graphics because I feel like they were eye catching while remaining true to Qdoba’s existing brand. The two graphics above are my two favorites that I came up with. I think my reaction to my work was really positive because of how easy it was to use Canva in comparison to Photoshop and InDesign. The set up and logistics of the website made it easy for me to edit my design so I didn’t get as frustrated with moving objects around as I do when I use the Adobe apps.

Based on my own experience and reaction to using Canva, I think they can allow PR practitioners to be more confident in their own design skills and feel more inclined to do their own design work because of how simple, easy and fun I think Canva is. Some limitations may include not being able to have as much freedom in customization as Photoshop allows, but for beginners in design, I think Canva is really helpful and useful.
