2.2: Letterhead Reflections
This round, we were asked to submit critiques for a few students, begin our letterhead design, and read Chapter 1 of Designing for Emotion by Aarron Walter.
I’ve always been wary of giving design critiques to non-designers. I don’t want to overestimate and confuse anyone, but I definitely don’t want to underestimate someone who’s worked days and weeks to learn what I’ve learned. I hate sounding condescending (and worry about it a lot). Still, this class is meant to teach everyone how to do design, so I chose to stick to the language and get some ideas down without overthinking it.
Frankly, I don’t know if I met my goal there. I could talk for hours about someone’s work and bore everyone to death when they could be out getting things done. I tried to keep things brief and succinct, trimming it to the more important, tangible ideas I had. To me, it’s important to be informative and helpful when I’m asked to do a critique like this; I mean, I need to learn if I want to teach someday. It’s a departure from my long, winding blog posts, for sure.
As for the letterhead, I went ahead and put together a draft to post here, though I don’t believe it was required to share yet. It’s far from revolutionary, but it meets my main goal of staying consistent with my business card design with the flush right text on blue.
Well, I’m feeling a little ill, but next time, I hope to talk about Designing for Emotion! Drop any thoughts, questions, or comments below anytime!
