A Newsletter for Baristas
This week in PR Pubs, we have our fourth design project due. Four projects over the course of the semester doesn’t sound too overwhelming; however, it’s definitely been a process of trial and error.
When I began designing my newsletter, I was happy I chose a company I liked and knew a little about. Knowing my company made it much easier to find pictures and articles that were relevant to my target public–Starbucks’ employees (AKA me). Starbucks is a very transparent company when it comes to giving information to their employees, and sending out a relevant and fun newsletter would be yet another way for the company to connect to us.
I feel like I could take my newsletter and make it even more design-heavy, since Starbucks is so active on social media and within the graphic design and artistic community– however, keeping it simple and clean makes for an easy read and a relatively easy construction for a beginner like me.
My target public affected my design in every way. Throughout my creative process I kept thinking, what would I like to see? What would make me want to read/engage with this newsletter? Thinking about myself as the target audience helped me visualized what baristas would want out of a company-wide newsletter. Starbucks is so focused on their employees, I know I would enjoy getting a thoughtful and informational newsletter about our opportunities and new policies.
