A Play on Words
Today in class I played three different games that helped better describe the different things we learned in class this week like Sans Serif font, being able to create visually pleasing spacing between different letters in words.
In Shoot the Serif you are given different letters that are either serif or sans serif font. You are required to choose only the fonts that are serif and shoot them, and if you shoot fonts that are sans serif then you get points deducted from your score. This game is interesting because it gets harder and harder to establish which font is with, especially with less time and more letters.
In Type Connection you pick out one letter and choose what you would have their characteristics be like as a person. Essentially this game is a dating site for letters. You can make opposites attract, like I did, or choose to make the letter like identical qualities that it carries. This game is interesting because it allows you to see many different aspects you wouldn’t originally consider like curves and proportionality of different letters.
In Kern Type you get to establish how much spacing there is between the letters in a word. This is interesting because you actually get to see how far off you were from the correct result (shown in bright blue). I never though spacing between words could be so tedious!
