About A Young PR Professional
Hi there and thanks for stopping by!
I’m currently enrolled in PR pubs, as you may have guessed, so this is just a fun blog site for me to share some of the cool things I’m working on in class. I have an eye for detail and design but I’ve never done much of anything like we are going to do in this class, so join me for the ride!
Here’s a little bit more to help you get to know me:
I’m a public relations junior at the University of Oklahoma; also pursuing a minor in human relations. Expected to graduate in December of 2016.
I’m from small town Perry, Oklahoma, and it has always been my dream to attend the University of Oklahoma. Now that I’m entering into the end of my junior year, I am realizing I couldn’t have made a better choice. The friends, the mentors, the opportunities, and the learning experiences I have encountered in the last three years have shaped me into who I am today and I couldn’t be more thankful.
Attending OU has given me one of my greatest adventures in life thus far… I got the opportunity to study abroad in Brazil over the past summer. I’d say a love for traveling is a defining characteristic of mine, and so spending the summer doing just that was wonderful. Also I really enjoyed learning about the culture and history of Brazil. Here’s one of the many pictures I took while sight seeing and doing touristy things.
Me at the top of 382 steps that led to the historic Penha Church in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, last summer. Favelas (slums) are in the background.
My love for traveling is just one of the many reasons that I chose PR. PR has turned out to be the perfect degree for me, and with every class I take I believe that more and more.
But, what’s funny is I didn’t even know what PR was before coming to college. I actually spent my entire first semester testing the waters of other degree fields and praying that God would show me which degree path to take. At the end of my freshman year I took my first class towards a PR degree, and, needless to say, I never looked back.
I love PR because it is a field that is always changing and adapting, and that excites me because I know I’ll never experience a boring day. I also love all the doors that a public relations degree can open, and I am looking forward to taking any opportunity offered to me in this field. I want to grow my skills and learn along the way while contributing to the success of the industry.
I firmly believe that we should choose paths in life that will help us make the lives of others better. And while PR isn’t necessarily thought of as life changing, like medicine for example, it is a field that can have a positive impact on lives. This thought often drives me to explore public relations internships for nonprofit organizations.
In addition to non profit organizations, I am also interested in the areas of event and wedding planning, advertising, and entrepreneurship ventures. I currently intern for Lindsey + Asp, a student run advertising and PR firm, and for Ground Zero Shelters in their PR/marketing department.
While the future is still unknown, I do have some idea of what I want it to look like. Ideally, I would like to start out at a PR agency in Dallas. I would also love to eventually work as a wedding and events planner, and maybe even own my own planning business. But above all else, I just hope my future holds in store for me lots of traveling, new connections, a job where I can learn and grow, and happiness.
XOXO for now!
