All the Best Girls Use this Business Card

THE MISSION: I was asked to choose an organization and design a business card and letterhead that reflected the organization’s mission and values. After a few weeks of battling with design programs, the final stretch of this design project is finally upon me!

THE PROCESS: After submitting a truly atrocious first draft and struggling through the second, I was finally able to follow through with my vision for a business card and letterhead for Alpha Phi. In my first draft, I incorporated the organization’s colors in a messy way, with much more Bordeaux than I intended. I had tried to use a floral-y, ivy-ish pattern for the back, which was closer to my idea than a solid background, but still not good (ivy is a symbol of Alpha Phi). I decided instead to incorporate a silvery-neutral color to the pattern, and fade it in the front so the contact information was still legible. The text was still the Bordeaux color I wanted, and complemented the crest nicely. (I decided to go with the crest instead of the Alpha Phi logo, because I thought it looked more professional.) The letterhead followed the business card’s example, with the crest as the focal point and the text and silver line underneath complementing the colors.

THE RESULT: I’m happy with the way it turned out! The floral pattern on the front and back is reminiscent of the ivy of Alpha Phi, and the colors and the crest work well together throughout the whole design. The 1872 on the bottom of the card and the letterhead reflects the timelessness and grandeur of an organization that was founded centuries ago, by women who wanted to empower each other.
