Another Apple Newsletter… Just Kidding

For this week’s enthralling Public Relations Publications assignment, I began sketching a striking newsletter for Apple, but I quickly pivoted after realizing everyone and their dog had selected the same corporation. For originality’s sake, I’ve migrated from one Silicon Valley technology giant… to another California Internet powerhouse. So this week, I’ve drafted a dummy layout for a Google company newsletter.

When I began sketching out designs for the newsletter, I ran through a couple boring-but-safe iterations before landing on some splashier designs featuring full-page bleeds. In the end, my first draft settles somewhere between the two — utilizing traditional text-heavy blocks to hammer out the first few stories. However, I cranked things up for feature #4 and I think the departure is paying handsome dividends. I’m now considering strategies to incorporate large-scale images into the headers and visual anchors for the previous three stories.

All things considered, I’m pleased with the bare-bones iteration of this newsletter template. While somewhat unassuming, it strikes a pleasantly modern harmony between fonts and most design elements. On the backend, it adds a dash of something new. I came; I experimented; I’m working my findings into the end product. I suspect the changes may take on a last-minute life of their own.
