Bootcamp Lesson: Complete
This week in Public Relations Publications our lesson was called “Bootcamp Week”. We were asked to watch a series of training videos to prepare our class to begin using Photoshop and InDesign.
When I found out that we were staring to use Adobe programs this week, I was very excited. I took multiple classes in high school that focuses on these programs and I could not wait to get back in the swing of thing.
I’ll be honest, when realized how many videos we had to watch, I became very overwhelmed… but I had a plan. I began watching a few videos every night to break it up and I surprisingly found myself enjoying the Lynda videos (and probably stayed up a little too late some nights watching them). I finally felt ready to get back into these programs.
I then took on the challenge of recreating the newsletter cover. Once I opened up InDesign I instantly started playing around trying to remember where all the tools were until I felt comfortable in the program again. I think recreating the newsletter was very useful first assignment to get the hang of InDesign.
Being the perfectionist I am, I found myself getting very frustrated when I couldn’t get it to look exactly like the example. But after a period of trial and error, I finally was satisfied with my completed project. I also found myself getting frustrated when I couldn’t remember where a tool was. I used to be a natural and could finish a project so quickly, but after a few years of no practice I was a little rusty.
In closing, the key to Photoshop of InDesign is PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.
